Chinese cranes pose espionage risk

A congressional investigation has found that Chinese-made cargo cranes at US seaports contain embedded technology that could enable covert access by Beijing, posing risks of espionage and disruption. The probe focused on cranes made by ZPMC, which supplies nearly 80% of ship-to-shore cranes in US ports. In an April letter to the committee staff, ZPMC denied responsibility for installing the cellular modems found on its cranes. The findings have heightened concerns about port security and China's potential threat to US critical infrastructure.
