Port union plans for strike

The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) has expressed unanimous support for a potential strike on October 1 if negotiations with port management fail. This could disrupt 43% of US imports, significantly impacting the economy. ILA President Harold Daggett emphasized the need for a favorable agreement, opposing increased automation and exclusive contracts. The United States Maritime Alliance, which represents ports ownership, said in a statement posted to its website that it remains committed to resume negotiations with the ILA. Concerns are rising among businesses about the economic repercussions, especially during the peak holiday shipping season.
